How Does Utah Select and Retain Judges?

September 20th, 2016

Make no mistake, when it comes to evaluating judges, the stakes are high. The professional standing of each judge is at stake. The quality of justice dispensed to the People of Utah is at stake. This is important and serious work, one in which we all have a role. The Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission’s (“JPEC”) role is to fairly assess the performance of each sitting judge and report the results of these assessments to the judges and to the public in an even-handed way.

Utah is somewhat unique in its approach to selecting and retaining judges. For full information regarding this process, please visit our Evaluation Process page.

We welcome your feedback!  Let us know how we’re doing by emailing JPEC at judicialperformance@utah.gov.
